π The
Story of 2 Peter — Growth, Warnings, and Christ’s Return
Part One:
Growing in Faith
Peter urges believers to grow in grace and
knowledge:
“His divine power has given us everything we
need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own
glory and goodness.”
- Faith
is strengthened by learning and understanding God’s Word
- Spiritual
growth produces virtues like goodness, knowledge, self-control,
perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love
“Make every effort to add to your faith
goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to
self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness,
mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.”
- Growth
in faith leads to a deeper relationship with God
Part Two:
Warning Against False Teachers
Peter warns about false teachers who
deceive and exploit:
- They
spread destructive ideas
- They
live immoral lives and distort the truth
- Believers
must stay vigilant and cling to Scripture
“But there were also false prophets among the
people, just as there will be false teachers among you.”
- Discernment
and obedience protect the church
Part Three:
Remembering God’s Promises
Peter reminds believers that God is patient,
not wanting anyone to perish, and His promises are sure:
- The
world may seem slow in receiving justice
- God
will fulfill His promises, including the return of Christ
- Believers
should live holy lives as they wait
“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise,
as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to
perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
- Patience
and holiness are essential while awaiting God’s plan
Part Four:
Looking Forward to Christ’s Return
Peter emphasizes Christ’s return and
the coming judgment:
- The
present world will pass away, but God’s kingdom is eternal
- Believers
are called to live with holy and godly lives in anticipation
“But the day of the Lord will come like a
thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed
by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.”
- Hope
in Christ motivates faithful living
