The Story of Hebrews — Jesus, Our High Priest and Foundation of Faith

Part One: Jesus, Superior to the Angels

Hebrews opens by showing that God has spoken through His Son, Jesus:

“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son.”

  • Jesus is greater than angels and all previous messengers
  • He is God’s ultimate revelation to humanity

Part Two: Jesus, the Perfect High Priest

Jesus is the perfect High Priest, offering a permanent sacrifice for sins:

  • He represents humanity before God
  • He suffered, was tempted, and sympathizes with our weaknesses
  • His sacrifice is complete, unlike repeated sacrifices under the old covenant

“For by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”

  • Faith in Jesus brings forgiveness and access to God

Part Three: Faith and Endurance

The letter encourages believers to hold fast to their faith:

  • Trust God even in difficult times
  • Follow the example of faithful people from the past
  • Persevere, knowing God’s promises are trustworthy

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

  • Faith sustains and strengthens believers through trials

Part Four: Jesus, the Fulfillment of God’s Promises

Hebrews emphasizes that Jesus fulfills all God’s promises:

  • The old covenant pointed to Him
  • He brings a better hope and eternal inheritance
  • Believers are called to approach God with confidence through Him

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

  • Jesus is the bridge between God and humanity

Part Five: Lessons from Hebrews

Hebrews teaches us:

  • Jesus is superior to all and the ultimate revelation of God
  • His sacrifice brings forgiveness and eternal life
  • Faith and perseverance are essential in following God
  • We can approach God confidently because of Jesus
