🌟 The Story of 3 John — Hospitality and Faithful Living

🌟 The Story of 3 John — Hospitality and Faithful Living

Part One: Walking in Truth

John begins by encouraging Gaius to walk in truth:

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”

  • Faithfulness to God shows in daily life
  • Walking in truth means living honestly, faithfully, and in alignment with God’s will

Part Two: Supporting Godly Leaders

John commends Gaius for helping traveling missionaries:

  • Supporting those who serve the gospel is a sign of love and obedience
  • Hospitality and generosity honor God and strengthen His work

“Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you.”

  • Helping others shows commitment to God’s kingdom

Part Three: Warning Against Pride and Selfishness

John contrasts faithful living with Diotrephes, who refused to welcome leaders and acted selfishly:

  • Pride and self-interest harm the church
  • Believers are called to humility, service, and cooperation

“He loves to be first. He refuses to welcome the brothers and stops those who want to do so.”

  • Faithfulness requires humility and respect for others

Part Four: Living Faithfully

John encourages believers to imitate good examples:

  • Follow the example of those walking in truth
  • Love, hospitality, and support for God’s servants demonstrate genuine faith
  • Faithfulness strengthens the church and glorifies God

“Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does good is from God.”

  • Good deeds reflect God’s character and blessing

Part Five: Lessons from 3 John

3 John teaches us:

  • Faithfulness is shown in truthful living and obedience
  • Support and hospitality for God’s servants honor God
  • Pride and selfishness harm the church
  • Imitating good examples strengthens faith and community
